BMW Will Air a 60-Second Ad During This Year’s Super Bowl

The marketing team from BMW USA apparently has a huge budget on its hands and decided to reach around 30 percent of Americans in one night. That’s right, BMW just announced that they will be airing a commercial for the i3 during the first quarter.
That’s probably one of the most expensive time slots in the history of TV commercials as rumors claim that a 30-second slot costs around $4.5 million. For 60 seconds you can almost surely just double that and you’ll see what kind of money BMW will be paying for its commercial to be aired.

However, it might be a good move as the audience is estimated to be around 100 million and you know that some of them will be interested in never having to visit a petrol station again.

“As one in three Americans will tune in to watch the Super Bowl, we are thrilled to use this platform to educate viewers on the importance of electric mobility,” said Trudy Hardy, Vice President of Marketing, BMW of North America.

“Big ideas like the BMW i3 take a little getting used to, and the creative idea surrounding our spot will play on this analogy,” he added.

This will be the first time BMW does this in over four years. The last time the company had a commercial in the Super Bowl was in 2011 and advertised the X3.

KBS (kirshenbaum bond senecal + partners) partnered with BMW for the creation of the spot, and UM is responsible for media buying. Now all we have to do is wait and see what they came up with as these commercials are usually extremely funny and creative. February 1st just can’t come quick enough!
