Little did the Maritz family know when they set out to visit the BMW Welt museum that they were bound to be surprised beyond their wildest dreams. That’s because when they purchased the tickets for their visit, they became the 15 millionth visitors the museum had since its opening in 2007.
The event happened Thursday and the BMW Team was ready to surprise the unsuspecting family not only with a warm welcome but also with an unexpected prize: getting to test the new 2 Series Active Tourer for four weeks, later this year.
BMW brand ambassador and top model, Karolina Kurkova was there to meet them alongside Thomas Murderlak, the head of BMW Welt.
“15 million visitors since opening in 2007. Today marks a very special occasion for us and underscores our tremendous success – having originally planned for only around 850,000 visitors a year. The diverse combination of car delivery, exhibitions, events, event forum and award-winning cuisine makes the BMW Welt a unique world of experience,” said Thomas Muderlak.
Speaking of the 2 Series Active Tourer Karolina, who is a young mother, said “it combines both of my worlds: on the one hand, style, which is important to me as a model; on the other, the flexibility and safety I need from my car in my everyday family life as a young mother.”
When it was first opened, the BMW Welt Museum was expected to welcome up to 850,000 visitors a year. However, by the time it turned one year old, it had already seen more than 2 million BMW enthusiasts walk through its halls. For 2014 nearly 2.5 million visitors are expected.
