BMW Wants to Improve Your Shopping Experience

Just yesterday we told you about a new service available for BMW drivers, called Rara, that allows you to download music and listen to various tracks without using a smartphone.

That’s possible thanks to the new infotainment systems that use a 3G sim card just like a regular phone would. That means they can also use location services to provide you with better services.

BMW is currently working on new ways to use this enhanced functionality in different ways. One of them is a virtual marketplace that would help you shop on your way home or during a holiday.

The way it works is really easy: you enter your destination in the navigation system and then iDrive will look for the best deals you can get on the way, displaying them on your onboard screen.

The system will be providing information about almost anything you could think of, from special coffee deals at filling stations to the best parking deals or even sports shops anywhere you want to go.

“In our vision for a virtual marketplace of the future, the vehicle will provide customers with context-adaptive, preference-based and timely offers and information relevant to their route,” says Dr Jörg Preißinger, Project Manager at BMW Group Research and Technology.

At the moment, the whole idea is being researched and worked on in collaboration with SAP, an international software manufacturer but it could become reality within the ConnectedDrive suite in the near future.
