An interesting idea is now being applied by the marketing people from BMW, teaching dealerships all over the country how to sell the new i8, not that they’d have to try too hard, according to the latest reports.
Apparently, US dealerships are receiving an official brochure from the US headquarters in which they pros of the i8 are explained, mainly in comparison to their biggest rivals, the Porsche 911 4S and the Audi R8. Now we know what segment BMW was aiming at when making the hybrid sports car.

The price ladder is considered one of the biggest advantages of the car in this battle, coupled with the easiness with which you can configure it, being limited to just 2 Lines/Worlds and 1 standalone option, with no optional packages.

While it might seem like a bad idea to offer so little customization options for a pricy car, it’s also a good way to keep prices down and things easy as you can get everything you want on the i8 with little add-ons as the car is very well equipped from the get-go.

We already talked about the standard features of the new car, saying that they include things such as Navigation Pro, Harmann Kardon audio system, adaptive cruise control, LED headlights, PDC, surround cameras, high beam assist and many, many others. Basically, all you could add refers to a different upholstery for the interior and the all famous laser headlights.

Starting at $135,700 the i8 is more expensive than a Porsche 911 4S and less expensive than a V10 R8 that starts at $149,900. At the same time, the BMW offers a fuel consumption of 112 mpg (2.1 l/100 km) while CO2 levels are rated well below 60 grams per kilometer, something the other two cars can only dream of, especially the Audi with its naturally aspirated engine.

However, until we actually get to drive the i8 we can’t talk about its driving dynamics and handling and that’s where the difference will, most likely, be made in the end. Hopefully BMW will deliver.
