BMW US Sales Were Record-Breaking in 2014

It was an incredibly successful year for the BMW Group in the US, despite some shaky performance in sales from the MINI brand. In total, over the last 12 months, the German company sold 395,850 units, a 5.3 percent increase over the results posted in 2013 when only 375,782 units were sold. In December alone, the company sold 48,141 cars, an increase of 9.5 percent compared to the same period, a year before.

“The record result in 2014 for BMW proves that solid growth is still possible when you have the right products that provide good value for the customer,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America.

“The increases across the BMW line make us optimistic about what’s possible in 2015. I am also very glad to see that MINI set a new sales record in December and I have no doubt MINI will have a great year now that the new models are becoming available,” he added.

BMW brand sales went up 9.8 percent

Of course, the numbers for the entire group look enthusiastic but some might say that they don’t reflect the BMW brand alone. Well, they don’t. Actually, BMW brand sales went up 9.8 percent, more than the overall growth.

In December alone, 41,526 cars with the BMW logo on their bonnet were sold, nearly 4,000 more than last year in the same month. Over the course of the entire 12 months, 339,738 units were sold, a 9.8 percent increase over 2013 as we said before. Furthermore, 2013 was the record-holder for BMW sales up until now with 309,280 units.

MINI brand sales down 15.6 percent this year

MINI didn’t live up to the expectations people had for it. The December sales were also record-breaking but that says little when you look at the whole picture.

Over the last month, the British brand sold 6,615 units, an increase of just 0.3 percent compared to December 2013, a new record for the company in the US for the last month of the year. By comparison, last year the MINI brand sold 6,592 units in the same month. Overall, sales are down for the Brits by 15.6 percent, the grand total reaching 56,112 units compared to 66,502 sold the year before.
