The Munich manufacturer will showcase the new M2 in front of the public for the first time ever in January 2016 at the Detroit COBO Center. For those of you unfamiliar with what a BMW M2 is (shame on you!), we’ll have you know it’s the smallest M car available today. BMW’s M2 is also considered the spiritual successor of the 1 Series M Coupe and of the legendary 2002 Turbo.

But most of all, the BMW M2 is a badass three-liter, six-cylinder, 370 HP compact coupe. The smallest M car can go from 0 to 60 MPH in just 4.2 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds) and can be daily driven on the street. It will arrive in US showrooms as well and pricing will be announced shortly. We’ll get back to you when we have them. It’s going to be pricey for a compact coupe, but it should be a bargain if you’re looking for a new 350+ HP performance coupe that you can drive every day.

Next up on the 2016 Detroit premieres list from BMW’s stand is the X4 M40i. If you’re unfamiliar with BMW’s rather new naming strategy (we feel you on this one), we’re giving you a quick update. This isn’t a fully-fledged M version of the BMW X4, but it is a 360 PS (or 355-hp for the US models) and 343 lb-ft variant of the X6’s smaller brother.

The car delivers a 0-60 time of just 4.7 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds). That’s 0.5 seconds more than the M2 and it can happen in an SUV that sits five adults, which is a bit frightening if it ends up in a smartphone-addicted soccer mom’s hands.

Soccer mom or performance enthusiast, the X4 M40i will be in BMW’s US showrooms starting February 2016. Pricing information will likely be available next month.

BMW will also bring the 330e plug-in hybrid at the 2016 Detroit Motorshow. Unlike the M2 and the X4 M40i, the 330e was first showcased at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The 330e is a plug-in hybrid variant of the 3 Series that provides a high level of performance, but with a low fuel consumption. Official figures quote a 0-60 mph time of 5.9 seconds (6.1 seconds for 0-100 km/h) and a total range of 373 miles. The hybrid system’s total output is of 252 HP and 310 lb-ft of torque. In the available all-electric mode, the vehicle can drive for 22 miles without emissions.
