It seems like the rumored i5 will have to wait for a while, according to BMW’s Harald Krueger, Member of the Board of Management. In a recent interview, the official said that the Germans are still weighing in the impact of the i3 before taking a decision.
Furthermore, the execs will also take into account the success fo the i8, even though this model will be a lot more expensive and in a different league than the all-electric i3.

Recent speculations that the city-car might be built in China in the near future were also denied by the high-ranking executive, claiming that the plant in Shenyang doesn’t have the technical capacity to built such a car.

Some ‘analysts’ claim that the massive investment into the CFRP material used for the i3 might bankrupt the company if the car turns out to be a flop but seemingly they forget about the extensive usage of the lightweight material in other applications like the M3 and M4 and upcoming models that will have to be lighter than ever.

The i3 costs $41,350 in the US without any government grant whilst the i8 will start at $135,700 when it will go on sale later this year.
