BMW to Debut Multi-Level Diffuser in Turkey

When Brawn GP first presented to the world their double-diffuser concept – well, actually, when it was ruled as legal by the International Automobile Federation – the general idea was that all teams will try to copy it as soon as possible. And they weren't wrong, as most outfits have already debuted interim versions of the new diffuser from as early as China.

BMW Sauber was not part of those teams, as they announced they'll debut their own improved version of the diffuser in Turkey, two weekends from now. As latest reports showed, it seems the Hinwil based outfit have decided to take it a step further, announcing the introduction of a “multi-level” diffuser on the F1.09 in Istanbul.

Whether “multi” means double or more, we're yet to find out. All we know is that, according to the BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen, “we are convinced that this will be a step in the right direction.”

Following a disastrous Monaco Grand Prix, when both BMW F1.09s lacked pace and Robert Kubica had to retire due to a problem with his car's braking system, the German team is also expected to debut their new version of the Kinetic Energy Recovery System in Istanbul. Although they've announced the new unit is ready to go, Theissen is yet to officially announce the debut of the updated KERS.

BMW Sauber and Scuderia Toro Rosso are currently the only teams yet to debut their new double diffusers. Red Bull Racing, the other outfit that was working on the new feature, implemented the new rear design on the RB5 in Monaco, last weekend.
