Last month, the Chinese market overpassed the US numbers, selling 30,331 BMW Group units, compared to the American 29,011 units. That means that China is now BMW's biggest market in the world.
However, the officials know they can do better. Taking a look at the numbers, you'll immediately notice why it took so long for the Chinese market to overtake the US one. BMW models were selling better in China for a long time.

Just last month, for example, 28,273 BMWs were sold in China, almost 5,000 more than in the US. It is the MINI counterpart that is faulty, selling only 2,038 units in the communist country, compared to 5,786.

That's why BMW wants to encourage Chinese customers to buy more MINIs. According to Kay Segler, brand manager for MINI, the key to selling more of the British cars is to introduce the John Cooper Works editions in Asia.

Zhu Jiang, brand manager for MINI in China said that the market seems open for more MINIs at the moment and things are looking up.

"Currently the consumers we are dealing with are greater than before, We must make a lot of strategic adjustments [for these consumers]," Mr. Zhu stated.
