The automotive world is buzzing with excitement after the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) were made public this weekend, with all the companies trying to fulfill the needs of the current market trying to see whether their efforts paid off or not.
In BMW's case, all those efforts were well worth while. The carmaker topped the DJSI, being named Supersector leader for the sixth time in a row, being the at the same time the group in the automotive industry to have been listed in the sustainability indexes every year since in inception in 1999.
BMW is at the same time the single German company to be ranked among the 19 Supersector leaders worldwide. The list of Supersector leaders in 2010 can be found here.
“We are delighted to be recognised by the renowned Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes. This independent ranking confirms once again that the BMW Group plays a leading role in the automotive industry of the future,” said Norbert Reithofer, BMW chairman of the board.
“For us, being the world’s most sustainable automobile company means accepting responsibility as a good corporate citizen. It motivates us to continue along this path towards our vision of sustainable individual mobility.”
DJSI is being compiled by the SAM Group based on the economic, environmental and social performance of some 2,500 companies. The best are selected from each industry for the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes.
DJSI analyzes the companies according to the same Corporate Sustainability Assessment and the same criteria. According to SAM, the methodology is "based on assessing the opportunities and risks deriving from economic, environmental and social dimensions for each of the eligible companies in the DJSI World investable stocks universe."
