BMW Team Schnitzer Names Top Pit Crew of 2013

In the DTM the slightest mishap can make or ruin a race completely. In a lot of moments, the difference between the first place and runner up is made by a less than a second. Therefore, the way pit crews work and how fast they move is of outmost importance.

Most of the world knows how fast the teams in Formula 1 move and the brilliant work they’re capable of in a few seconds, changing an entire set of wheels and refueling a car just like that. However, the DTM has similar demands from the teams, even though the budgets are nearly as big as in the king of motorsports.

Even so, BMW honors the team that did the best job over a season, every year, in collaboration with the official tyre manufacturer of the competition, Hankook. For the 2013 championship, this award went to the BMW Schnitzer team and was presented to its officials on Wednesday.

BMW Team Schnitzer managed the fastest tire change in five of the ten races of the 2013 season, more than any of the other 3 teams. The award was presented to the team owner, Herbert Schnitzer, team principal Charly Lamm and BMW driver Bruno Spengler.

“When we realised that we had won the prize, there were big celebrations within the team. This award means a lot to us. It is nice that Hankook is able to show its appreciation of the work put in by the mechanics, in the form of the Best Pit Stop Award,” said Lamm.

“Being able to say that we produced the best performance of all the teams over the course of the year is a nice reward for all the hard practice. I would like to say a big thank you to the team, who really put on an impressive display in 2013,” he added.
