On April 20, the BMW Team RLL along with its new car for the American Le Mans Series, the BMW Z4 GTE, will race in the second event of the season, in Long Beach.
After a promising debut at the 12 Hours race in Sebring, back in March, overshadowed by some mechanical problems that hopefully will not happen again, the team is confident that they have a shot at the number one spot.
Good results achieved in the last 4 years with the M3 GT make this race not only a must win but also a matter of pride. In 2009, Dirk Muller and Tommy Milner finished third, in 2010, Bill Auberlen and Milner claimed the same spot whilst 2011 brought Joey Hand and Dirk Muller the first place.
"We have had very competitive cars here over the last four years; we have been on the podium every year and won in 2011. While I think we are at a top-speed disadvantage currently with the Z4, the car has very good handling and on a street circuit that’s probably the most critical part. I suspect we can be competitive again this year even though the car is new, ” said Bobby Rahal, Team Principal.
