Both of BMW Team RLL’s teams involved in the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship managed to improve on their starting positions in this weekend’s race at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park.
Starting off from the fifth place on the grid, the number 56 BMW Z4 GTLM car driven by John Edwards and Dirk Muller managed to finish fourth after completing the 126 laps of the 2.459-mile circuit on which the event was held.
First behind the wheel was Muller that held his ground for the first stint, handing over the car to Edwards after 40 laps. John then proceeded to win a place in the race and he even came within 6 seconds of a podium position by the end.
In the number 55 car, Bill Auberlen and Andy Priaulx set off from the tenth position and managed to finish sixth. Andy began the race behind the wheel, leaving Bill to race between lap 43 to 83. After that, Priaulx made a couple of daring moves to overtake positions seven and sixth just 13 minutes before the end of the race.
“We knew CTMP would be a challenge for us,” said Gordon McDonnell, BMWNA Motorsport Manager. “BMW Team RLL did a great job to finish fourth and sixth, so hats off to the guys for a strong performance. I think we have to be really happy with the points we collected here this weekend. Congratulations also to the Turner Motorsport team for finishing third with the Z4 GTD.”
“Realistically fourth is pretty darned good,” said Bobby Rahal, Team Principal. “Early on we got separated as the Corvette and Viper got away from everybody, and we just couldn’t chase them down. But I am pleased with fourth and sixth based on where we qualified.”
The next round of the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship will be the Brickyard Grand Prix, set to take place on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, on July 25th.
