It was a hard race this weekend at Daytona, where BMW Team RLL finished second and fourth, at just .478 seconds from the number one spot. The number 25 Z4 GTLM car driven by Bill Auberlen, Augusto Farfus, Bruno Spengler and Dirk Werner was the culprit in second place.
The four managed to complete 725 laps around the 3.56-mile, 12-turn Daytona International Speedway road course and Werner was the one behind the wheel when the checkered flag went down, finishing just 0.478 seconds behind the No.3 Corvette.

On the other hand, John Edwards, Jens Klingmann, Lucas Luhr and Graham Rahal came in fourth after an accident at around the 9-hour mark cost them 29 laps. What’s interesting is that last year, the team finished on the exact same positions. Admittedly, the last round's ending wasn’t as intense.

"That was a nail biter for the last ten to fifteen minutes. The final yellow came in just the right moment for us so we were lucky at the end. I should give a compliment to everyone involved for the hard work here and back in Munich over the winter to build some top speed into the BMW Z4 GTLM that we were lacking here last year,” said Jens Marquardt, BMW Motorsport Director.

“We can definitely see the improvement. We aren’t there yet, but the guys had something in their hands that they could fight with today, and in that respect I send big, big congratulations to all the drivers and the team. Second and fourth make a fantastic start the 2015 season and the 40th anniversary here for BMW,” he added.

The team will soon be traveling to Sebring for yet another endurance race and, if things are to repeat once again, we should be seeing another strong performance. Last year the BMW Team RLL managed a podium finish and led the championship for the early part of the 2014 season.
