BMW’s Motorsport endeavors were successful this weekend, not only in the DTM but also across the ocean, in the Tudor United Sportscar Championship. That’s where Team RLL managed to secure its fourth podium of the year, this being one of the best starts of season in its history.
At the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Bill Auberlen, behind the wheel of the No. 55 BMW Z4 GTLM finished second on Sunday, after a more than exciting race alongside his colleague, Andy Priaulx.

Following this race, the duo leads in the driver points standings while the Team is at the top of their own rankings too. The two finished the 84-lap race just 4.710 seconds behind the winning Corvette.

The race began for the No. 55 Z4 on the fifth place on the grid, with Andy behind the wheel. After 50 minutes and 36 laps, it was time for Bill to take over. Making just one pit stop on lap 63, the veteran managed to overtake the No. 62 Ferrari for third place on lap 79 and managed to defeat a Porsche 911 in the last five laps for second place.

The other car, number 56, driven by John Edwards and Dirk Muller, was unfortunate and had to perform an emergency pit stop due to a problem with the steering. Afterwards, a stop-and-go penalty forced them to lose more valuable time, the two finishing 10th.

“Bill did a great job in the No. 55 car at the end, but the Porsche ran him off the road twice. It is good to be on the podium again and good for Bill and Andy for their championship,” said Bobby Rahal, Team Principal.

“This is our third second place here, and we need to do something about that. It was a hard race today. We took a different pit strategy to the other cars. It worked, but it is a shame the number 56 car got penalized,” he added.

Round Five of the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, the Sahlen’s Six hours of The Glen, will take place at Watkins Glen International, in Watkins Glen, NY, on Sunday, June 29th
