BMW Team RLL Claims Another Podium Finish at Road America

It was a good race for BMW Team RLL this weekend in the United SportsCar Championship, managing to claim two spots in the top 10 at Road America. There was even a podium finish for Dirk Muller by the end of the race, the German driver managing to finish second alongside his ‘partner in crime’, John Edwards.

The other car from Team RLL came in eight, driven by Bill Auberlen and Andy Priaulx. Auberlen started the race for the duo in car number 55 and handed it over to Andy at the end of lap 24.

In the number 56 car, things went better. Muller took over after only 8 laps from polesitter Edwards. However, John scraped its front left fender avoiding the first accident of the race. That didn’t stop the German driver that started chasing a Ferrari while also being haunted by a Viper. In the end, the number two position was more than deserved.

“After lap two or three the day did not look like it was going to be a good one. The number 56 car was wounded aerodynamically and that slowed us a little bit on the straights. Dirk did a great job and he was able to hold off the Viper at the end,” said Bobby Rahal, BMW Team Principal.

“The Ferrari was able to pull away from us on the long straights. Congratulations to them for the win. We are really pleased with second place. We’re back on the podium,” he added.

“When I saw John have the incident only minutes into the race and the front was damaged I thought the race may be over for us. When it was my turn I used every trick in my book to chase and defend, and am proud that John and I could race BMW back on the podium,” said Dirk Muller after the race about the challenges posed by the accident.
