The 2013 DTM Season started perfectly for the BMW Motorsport division. The RBM Team won the first race of the season, thanks to some perfect driving from Augusto Farfus.
However, the Brazilian driver's win wasn't the only good result the BMW M3s managed. Dirk Werner, in the BMW Team Schnitzer's M3 DTM managed to finish runner-up after starting the race from the 20th place on the grid.

This was the first one-two win for the BMW teams since the return to DTM in 2012 and the 16th time in the DTM history when two BMW drivers manage to cross the finish line in first and second place.

The new Drag Reduction System did what is was supposed to do and the race was spectacular, with many overtaking maneuvers. Last year's champion, Bruno Spengler, crossed the finish line in fifth place while Joey Hand and Marco Wittman came in seventh and ninth.

Unfortunately, Timo Glock's DTM debut was cut short, due to technical difficulties - after the first pit stop, the rear right wheel of his M3 came off. Overall, out of the top 10 positions, 5 were held by BMW drivers and BMW Motorsport Director, Jens Marquardt was happy with the end result of the race.

“That was a really awesome start to the season. I must pay a huge compliment to everyone in the team – particularly to Augusto Farfus and Dirk Werner, of course, who presented us with our first one-two since we returned to the DTM. Augusto did not make a single mistake, and BMW Team RBM got its strategy spot on. The same can be said of BMW Team Schnitzer, who helped Dirk climb from 20th to a remarkable second. His fightback was simply fantastic. I hope the first race of the years was as thrilling and exciting for the fans as it was for us," said Marquardt.

"I feel sorry for Timo Glock. He was looking very good at the start and did a great job of cutting through the field. However, any new team is always on a learning curve, and that unfortunately includes set-backs. That makes me even more delighted that his team-mate Marco Wittmann finished in the points in his first race, having started from right at the back,” added Marquardt.
