BMW Still Interested in 2009 Campaign

BMW Sauber have certainly showed that their outing in Monaco as simply a one-off, as the Hinwil based team managed to score points for the second time this season, in Europe. Robert Kubica managed to score his first points this season after coming 7th at the chequered flag, and the result seems to have boosted his team's confidence for the remainder of the year.

Although they're no less than 88 points behind championship leaders Brawn GP – and therefore have no chance whatsoever to clinch this year's title – BMW refuses to make the same mistake as last year. Meaning they are determined to continue the development of their F1.09 model, despite the obvious lack of performance as compared to its championship rivals. Or so the German marque's motorsport director Mario Theissen revealed.

I'm often asked these days if it wouldn't be better to simply stop working on the enhancement of the F1.09 and fully focus on our 2010 challenger instead. But this doesn't represent an option for us. We won't give up on the current season – far from it,” said Theissen, according to his team's official site.

He also made it very clear that, although at peace with the thought of not being able to challenge for the world title this season, the team will be motivated by their wish to turn this year's campaign into a winning one by the end of it.

We have increased our development pace and will bring significant improvements for the car to every second or third race from now on. Improvements that will also compromise enhanced versions of the twin diffuser. t the end of the season we want to be able to say: 'We encountered a disappointing start to the season but we succeeded in turning things around and making it back to the front end of the field,'” added the German official.

The team debuted a new double decker diffuser during last weekend's Turkish Grand Prix, and are believed to also fit the F1.09 with a newly-improved KERS unit from as early as the upcoming British Grand Prix, at Silverstone.
