BMW Shows the G310 Stunt Bike Concept, in Fact, Revealing the Upcoming 300cc Machine

BMW Motorrad shows the G310 Concept, a stunt bike like no other that wore the BMW badge in modern times. That is, the G310 represents the first incarnation of an all-new generation of motorcycles created and developed in collaboration with BMW's Indian partner TVS.

TVS announced a tie-up with BMW in the spring of 2013, with the ultimate goal of creating a new generation of small-displacement motorcycles that would be sold by both companies. BMW Motorrad would design and develop the new machines in Germany, while TVS would build them in their Indian plants.

Right from the start, BMW said that the bikes they plan to sell would bear the Motorrad badge, whereas the bikes sold in India and in other markets in the region would be marketed as TVS. Seeing the BMW badge on this concept is, however, as natural as it gets. Still, we don't get our hopes too high - the final product, expected at EICMA in November, will most likely retain only a fraction of the G310 stunt machine looks.

Chris Pfeiffer helped BMW prepare this stunt machine

One of the coolest things about the BMW G310 is that the legendary, multiple stunt world champion Chris Pfeiffer agreed to bestow some of his vast expertise into transforming the bike into a stunt beast.

Even though he has recently announced his retirement from the pro stunt riding scene, Pfeiffer worked as a technical advisor for BMW. This is how he G310 got its dual brake levers on the bars, for example.

You'll observe that the left bar comes with two levers: one is the clutch and the other one engages the rear brake, allowing a rider to use the foot brake even if his or her foot is not on the bike.

The G310 also comes with a lockable throttle, a larger rear rotor, revised gear ratios, a very cool aluminium stunt tail, the classic axle pegs and of course, crash bars. Some might find the color scheme a tad too far away in epilepsy territory, but considering this is a show bike, don't expect the final machine to look like it.

On the tech side, the most credible rumors say that the upcoming BMW platform will be based on a 310cc single-cylinder injected engine with liquid cooling, with a reversed head, meaning the exhaust is in the rear, just like in the case of Yamaha YZ450F.

Other rumors with good credibility see BMW planning to use this new platform for a small GS-type machine and a faired sport bike, as well. We'll be all eyes at EICMA so stay tuned.
