According to BMW, “the bike’s extraordinary color was inspired by the legendary BMW 1802 from the 1970s, which of course back then was also available in orange − the decade’s most stylish color. But that’s the only thing that’s retro about the BMW Cruise Bike.”
The bike has been constructed using state of the art technology. The aluminum frame has been manufactured using innovative hydro-forming technology, in which the pipes are filled with oil and pressure molded. As a result the core of the bike is extremely solid.
Orange is not the only color featured on the BMW Cruise Bike, as the upper frame, the Suntour suspension fork and the saddle are painted in white. The producer says that the dual color design is meant to draw attention to the line of he BMW frame. The really cool thing about this bike is that most of the cables used to work the brakes and gears run inside the framework, so you get a nice, clean look.
The BMW Cruise Bike has a Suntour Suspension fork and a 24-gear Shimano Alivio speed derailleur system which, the producer says, is enough to guarantee you maximum riding confort in both city or fields. The bike is available starting in February 2010 in combinations of orange/white, silver/white and blue/black at select BMW dealers and online at www.bmw-shop.de.
