Back in February BMW announced they’ve partnered up with renown artist Alfredo Haberli to design something new the Germans would showcase at the Salone del Mobile. The famous international design fair that took place in April was a blast, of course, but now the automaker decided to show people what the process of creating such a sculpture is all about.
Before we get into details, we’d like to warn you we’re about to step into the world of experimental design. It’s the world where eccentric creators are allowed to combine things that never go together in the hopes their view on the future will help tomorrow be better than today.

The video below has Swiss Argentinian product designer Alfredo Haberli taking fans behind the scene of his workshop where he designed the sculpture in the first place. At this point, you’re most likely wondering what this creation is. Well, it’s not a vehicle, nor is it a plane. It even has some features borrowed from boat design, but it’s not a watercraft either.

At the centre of his journey into the immediate future of mobility is a large-scale, deliberately abstract object whose form cited the lightness of forward motion and whose design addresses pivotal values of future automotive design: technically everything is feasible, the luxury of movement focuses on the core statement, mobility becomes carefree and communicative,” BMW explained back in February.

Call it however you want, we sure grew fond of it after watching the video below. After all, we told you guys in the first place; this is the eccentric and often abstract world of design.
