BMW September Sales, Level

German manufacturer BMW announced today it managed to surpass the sales registered in September 2008 with only 0.7 percent. The ninth month of the year brought the group 122,354 units sold and, even if the increase is almost insignificant, it does leave room for hope.

For the first time this year we were able to increase our sales volume slightly in September. Provided there are no economic setbacks, we should continue to make gains throughout the remaining months of the year," Ian Robertson, BMW member of the board for sales and marketing said in a release.

Brand by brand, BMW sold 97,545 vehicles in September, a decrease of only 1.2 percent. MINI managed to climb the most, with the 9.5 percent increase bringing the total number of units sold to 24,759. As usual the last few months, the worst performer was Rolls Royce, which sunk even further (61.2 percent down) to only 50 vehicles sold.

Market wise, BMW posted the biggest increase in Brazil (132.2 percent – 685 vehicles) and posted the steady growth we come accustomed to in China (35.4 percent up – 8,131 vehicles). At the opposite end, the UK reported only a 1 percent increase (24,590 vehicle). However, BMW believes the company will post a better than expected loss for 2009.

There is a good chance that we will end this year with a moderate decrease in sales of only 10 to 15 percent from 2008 levels, despite difficult economic conditions overall. Not least thanks to the new BMW models X1 and 5 Series Gran Turismo, which will join our model range in late October and are already being extremely well received,” Robertson concluded.
