BMW Sauber Reveal C29 in Valencia

BMW Sauber has shown their Formula One challenger for the 2010 season at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia, becoming the 3rd team from this year’s roster to unveil their new car. Despite keeping the BMW name in their official team designation – for now at least – the new C29 will be the Swiss outfit’s first ever car powered by a Ferrari engine.

The first thing that catches the eye with Sauber’s new car design is the shark fin engine cover, which resembles the one showed by McLaren Mercedes on their MP4-25 during the course of Friday. Also, as compared to the last season’s car, the 2010 single-seater seems to have also borrowed the nose design from Red Bull’s RB5.

The technical preparation of the 2010 car has continued uninterrupted and according to plan since the spring of 2009, despite all the turmoil. We have a long tradition of bringing together an up-and-coming youngster and an experienced campaigner as a driver combination - and it's an approach that has brought us a lot of success,” said team owner Peter Sauber.

The development of the BMW Sauber C29 has seen the team build on the experience gained last year and the improvement in performance over the final third of the season. However, the new regulations banning refueling during the race and stipulating a reduced width for the front tires have required significant changes to the car's design,” added technical director Willy Rampf.

In addition, the team presented its official lineup for the 2010 season of Formula One, with Pedro de la Rosa joining Kamui Kobayashi as race driver of the Swiss team.

At last I can feel like a proper racing driver again. I've really missed the competition out on the track. At the same time, though, I've learned a lot technically and on the systems side, and now I want to bring that knowledge to the team,” said the Spanish veteran.

I'm very proud that Peter Sauber has shown so much faith in me and I'm determined not to disappoint him. My aim is that he will end up being proud of me as well,” added Kobayashi.

The two drivers are scheduled to take the C29 to the track starting Monday morning, when the first test of the season kicks off in Valencia.
