For the first time in history BMW deliveries in January in Asia topped 50,000 units, adding up to a total of 50,814 deliveries, a 17.9 percent increase over the numbers of last year.
Of course, the biggest ‘client’ was Mainland China, as always, that accounted for 37,137 cars of the grand total, posting a 22.2 percent increase over the 30,397 units delivered over the same period of 2013. Another significant growth was posted by South Korea that saw a 24 percent bump in demand, buying 3,460 vehicles compared to last year’s 2,790.

Over on the other side of the globe, in the Americas, sales grew by 3.8 percent to a grand total of 25,021 out of which 20,796 went to the US alone (a 3 percent increase). Brazil saw a growth of 32.4 percent (to 961 units) while Mexico sales increased by 26.4 percent (1,212 units).

Europe remained the biggest market for BMW overall, accounting for 51,319 units, barely overtaking Asia. The growth posted was of just 1.4 percent but in the terrible headwinds the auto market faces in the old continent, it’s still a pretty good performance. Scandinavia and the Netherlands posted the biggest changes with a 32.4 percent increase in the latter and 24.2 percent for the former.

The results are quite surprising, especially since China continues to dominate the sales, overtaking the US by quite a big margin, selling over 10,000 more units (50% more than the North American country) and thus confirming that it will become the most important country on BMW’s radar, as expected. Furthermore, the prices Bavarian automobiles have in the communist country make the profit margin even bigger here than in the US, justifying the ever increased importance Munich attributes to the far east region.
