After BMW managed to break yet another record last year and sell over 2 million cars worldwide, the company seems to be off to a good start yet again, with the January sales going up 4 percent in January already. We’re talking about the US market alone however.
In the States, the Germans managed to sell a total of 18,235 BMW branded cars in the first month of the year. Overall, the BMW Group (including MINI) sold 22,209 units, an increase of 6.8 percent compared to last year when only 20,796 cars found a home.

That puts MINI sales at around 3,228 automobiles which might not look like a lot but actually represents an increase of 26.9 percent compared to the 2,543 units sold in the same month, a year ago.

“Coming after a record December and a record 2014 year-end result, the January numbers are a solid start for the new year and I am confident the trend will accelerate in the months ahead,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America.

He also expressed confidence in the fact that the MINI brand is starting to recover after a troublesome year in 2014 due to a generation change from the Mk2 to Mk3 models.

Pre-owned cars

When it comes to certified pre-owned cars, things are looking up as well, sales of BMW branded ones going up by 3 percent in January to 14,564 units that’s roughly 400 more than last year (14,143 units).

As for the MINI brand, they reported a small decrease of the same caliber, 3 percent. Last year 1,881 pre-owned MINIs found a home while this year only 1,824 did the same.
