Zandvoort is definitely a track that favors BMW’s new M4 DTM cars. After claiming a record-breaking 1-7 finish on the Saturday race, BMW managed to post another incredible result on Sunday with a 1-5 finish, the third in the company’s history since racing in the DTM.
This time it was Antonio Felix da Costa who crossed the finish line first instead of Marco Wittmann, and this was the first win for the Portuguese driver since signing with BMW for the German racing championship.

It was an expected outcome as well as the man started off from pole position and managed to defend his lead for the entire 60 minutes of the race. The four drivers that followed him home were (in this order) Augusto Farfus, Bruno Spengler, Timo Glock and Marco Wittmann.

The other three drivers were not so lucky. Maxime Martin, who finished third just a day before, ended the race in the 17th place followed by Tom Blomqvist that came in seventh on Saturday. Unfortunately, Martin Tomczyk had to retire again, this time due to a collision.

“After yesterday’s result, we were able to achieve another top result in race two, although it was much tougher today. It is obviously fantastic to see so many BMW drivers so far up the field. After yesterday’s excellent second place, António Félix da Costa went one better and claimed his first win in the DTM today – the first Portuguese driver ever to do so. He drove a good race,” said BMW Motorsport Director, Jens Marquardt.

This Sunday’s result helped BMW gain back some valuable points in the manufacturers’ championship. If prior to this weekend things were looking bleak in this regard, the Bavarians are now still third but within striking range compared to Audi and Mercedes-Benz.

The number one spot is still held by Audi with 297 points followed by Mercedes-Benz with 249 and then BMW with 237 points. In the drivers’ championship, Jamie Green is still first with 81 points while the best-placed BMW driver is in sixth place, Bruno Spengler with 52 points. The next race will be held in Austria, at Spielberg, on the last weekend of July (July 31st - August 2).
