Having pulled out of Formula 1 three years ago, BMW have announced that there are currently no plans for a return. According to BMW’s Motorsport Director, Jens Marquardt, who was preceded at the helm by well-known F1 figure, Mario Theissen, "In July of 2009, a very clear decision was made [. . .] This (decision) stands. We are very well positioned in terms of our motor sport programme and this is not going to change at all in the medium term."
However, we say that BMW are far more at home in the German DTM touring series, where they use the M3 road car as a base for their racer. Seeing a BMW M3, covered in official ‘M’ liveries is undoubtedly a mouthwatering experience for any BMW enthusiast and the German brand is undoubtedly aware of this - modern carmakers use motorsport to sell cars and this probably sells more cars for BMW than F1 does. If that changes, be sure that they will ‘adapt’ and if F1 were to surely make them more money, they would never have left.
