BMW keeps evolving its electric concepts, and after having revealed the convertible version of their i8, they have now revealed a two-door version of the smaller i3, ahead of the concept’s debut at the 2012 Los Angeles International Auto Show.
It’s called the i3 Coupe Concept, and the first thing you notice is the lack of rear doors - its main differentiating feature over the regular i3 Concept. It features a 170 hp electric motor, which drivers the rear wheels via a single-speed gearbox.
Also, while it may share its underpinnings with the regular version, and thus has the same wheelbase, it is nevertheless lower, wider and meaner. BMW are boasting about the use of renewable materials in the car’s interior, which include leather, wood and wool - yes, wool.
Also with the more steeply raked windscreen pillars, the car gets a much nicer-looking side profile, and while it still appears a tad bulky, it is considerably sleeker than the other car. It also shows that BMW will not limit itself to making a single variant out of this car. We would honestly like to see what an estate version of this would look like.
