BMW Reports Best First Half of the Year Ever in the US

The first 6 months of 2014 have been profitable for BMW. So profitable actually that the German group is now reporting a record breaking first half of the year, perfectly in tune with their 2 million cars sold goal.

BMW Brand sales went up by a considerable margin in June, rising by 11.5 percent to a grand total of 30,201 units, 3,127 more than in the same month of last year. On a year-to-date basis, the BMW brand is up 12.1 percent on sales, adding up to 157,382 vehicles sold and delivered. During the same period of 2013, ‘only’ 140,431 units were sold.

“The June and first-half results prove again that customer demand is solid and stronger than many have thought and we fully expect confidence and demand to stay strong through the end of the year,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “I am particularly pleased with the results for our 2 and 4 Series models; these are driving machines at the core of the BMW brand.”

Things are not as exciting looking over the sales of the entire group though. MINI USA reported a decrease in demand of 18.2 percent, the sales seemingly not picking up. Over the course of July, only 5,376 automobiles made in Oxford were sold in the US, 1,195 less than during the same month of 2013.

The drop is even bigger on a year-to-date basis. So far in 2014, MINI managed to sell just 24,152 units, 8,204 less than in the same period of last year.

Due to this poor performance from MINI, the BMW Group sales in the US are up 5.7 percent in June, adding up to 35,577 vehicles. On a year-to-date basis, the sales went up 5.1 percent to a grand total of 181,534 in the US.
