BMW Remains Australia’s Top Selling Luxury Brand

It seems that Aussies who had some money to spend on a luxury vehicle this year preferred the BMW brand. According to 2009 official industry figures, the Bavarian brand has been crowned king of luxury sales in Australia for the sixth year in a row. This year BMW managed to sell more than 17,000 passenger cars.

“To record sales in excess of 17,000 units for the third consecutive year is a testament to the strength of the BMW product range and dealer network,” says Stavros Yallouridis, managing director of BMW Group Australia.

Some of BMW’s success in Australia was due to the powerful campaign to promote BMW EfficientDynamics, the technology meant to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. This year, the demand for diesel powered vehicles also grew, reaching almost 40 percent of the cars sold by BMW.

“BMW EfficientDynamics has played a fundamental role in the continued success of BMW providing customers with class leading fuel economy and power, whilst remaining true to the driving prowess unique to BMW,” he says.

Since its arrival in Australia 30 years ago, BMW has had the privilege to be the best selling luxury car for 21 times. Officials are confident that 2010 will be a good year, as BMW plans to launch two important new products: the X1 and the news 5 Series.

“This year will be another significant year for BMW with the planned introduction of many new and innovative models that will again open up new opportunities for the company,” says Yallouridis.
