The end of 2014 has finally come and the numbers are in. As it turns out, BMW managed to take back the crown for the best selling premium brand in the US from Mercedes-Benz after just 12 months.
After the numbers for 2013 were put together, Mercedes-Benz USA managed to overthrow the Bavarian brand in sales by some 3,000 units. It was the first time that happened in the last two years and BMW seemingly didn’t take things lightly.

Over the course of the following months, the blue and white roundel found its way into the homes of more Americans than the three-pointed star.

In absolute numbers, BMW posted a 9.8 percent increase in 2014, reaching a grand total of 339,738 units. At the same time, the Mercedes-Benz brand posted a growth of 5.7 percent, going up to 330,391 vehicles.

As you can see, the difference is still pretty small but enough to give the Munich-based giant the upper hand and bragging rights in the US for now.

The podium in the luxury segment was completed by Lexus with 311,389 while Audi came in fourth with a disappointing 182,011 units. Even so, both runner ups have reported gains over the percentages shown by BMW and Mercedes. Lexus grew by 13.7 percent compared to 2013 while Audi sits even better at 15.2 percent, driven by new, cheaper models such as the A3 Sedan.
