Just a few days ago, at the end of March, BMW was recalling some of its 2015 SUVs for a potential faulty airbag deployment system. Then came the turn for 2,000 4 Series cars to go through the same treatment and now there are another 18,054 units being called back to their dealerships. Why? Potential fuel pump malfunction.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association, over 18,000 cars from the 2, 3 and 4 Series range are equipped with potentially faulty fuel systems that could lead to an increase in the risk of a crash.

The list is quite impressive as it includes almost all cars with a 2-liter or 3-liter petrol engine manufactured in 2013 as 2014 model year Bimmers.

Therefore, if you own a 2014 BMW 229i, 320i, 320i xDrive, 328i, 328i xDrive, 335i, 335i xDrive, 428i, 428i xDrive, 435i, 435i xDrive, ActiveHybrid 3 or M235i car you might want to call your dealer. In case of the 428i, 428i xDrive and 435i models, the recall expands to 2015 model year versions as well.

According to the recall notice, there’s an improper nickel plating of components within the fuel pump that may or may not result in the fuel pump failing. Of course, just to be safe, the fuel pumps on these models will be replaced, free of charge, starting with April 30, 2015.

It might not seem like a big deal but recent BMW recalls have begun to increase in numbers. Just over these last three weeks, a number of over 20,000 Bimmers have been recalled into service, and that’s simply put, worrying.
