It seems like the problems Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Mazda had with their airbags might also be found in the 2002-2003 E46 3 Series BMWs. The German manufacturer announced that the specified models are equipped with airbags from the same manufacturer.
According to BMW officials, the Takata airbags might catch on fire or send metal fragments towards passengers due to one defective part that will be replaced in BMW dealerships all over the USA.

The malfunctioning part was manufactured incorrectly at the Moses Lake plant in Washington. Overall there were only 6 incidents blamed on this kind of a misfire and none of them resulted in injuries. However, we strongly advise you to check in to your local dealership and have the part replaced.
