BMW of North America announced that it is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 1 Series vehicles due to an issue with the cars’ safety restraints.
When a crash of sufficient severity occurs, the pre-tensioner and load limiter for the seat belts of the front seats are deployed. This can cause the insulation around the pre-tensioner to ignite.
The automotive producer has not yet provided a remedy or an owner notification schedule for this campaign.
If you own a BMW 1 Series belonging to the 2008-2011 model year, you can contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417. You can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's via the dedicated Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or visit the Administration’s safecar website.
The BMW 1 Series is based on the E81 platform and has maintained the image of the previous model. However, the vehicle features a series of visual modifications including refreshed front and rear bumpers, new headlights and taillights, as well as a fresh interior trim. The vehicle can feature BMW’s EfficientDynamics technology, which offers multiple eco-orientated technologies, such as Brake Energy Regeneration, Electric Power Steering and an Auto Stop-Start System.
The car’s engine range features four diesel units and four petrol powerplants (out of which one is only available for the coupe version of the car). The diesel engines offer a power and torque level between 116 hp & 260 Nm and 204 hp & 400 Nm. The petrol units start at 143 hp & 190 Nm and top at 306 hp & 400 Nm.
