You probably never heard of the Reputation Institute, and that would be fine as this is the first time we caught wind of it too. However, the guys have been around for 18 years and their claim that their research shapes the way various industries work.

In this regard, BMW was just announced as being the most reputable company in 2015 by the previously mentioned institute that, by the way, has offices in New York and Copenhagen. According to their Global Reptrak 100 chart, the BMW Group overtook companies like Google (ranked second) and Daimler (ranked third).

The results were compiled after the Reputation Institute analyzed the answers offered by 61,000 people in 15 countries: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, South Korea, Spain the U.K. and the US.

In order to make the cut, a company would have to be well known in all countries where the questionnaire was used as well as have revenues of more than $1 billion globally.

The success of BMW could be attributed to the way the company does business. To be more precise, it could be down to the way they portray themselves wherever they have dealers or production facilities as they are known to steer clear of the image of makers of gas-guzzling products.

Of course, the creation of the i sub-brand helped out here but the holistic approach towards the relationship with its customers is what made the difference in the end. Does all of this help in any way?

Well, according to Kasper Ulf Nielsen, executive partner and co-founder of Reputation Institute, “83% of consumers say they would definitely buy products sold by companies with top reputations while only 9% want to buy from companies with poor reputations.” That’s good news for the German giant!
