BMW R1200GS Receives Variable Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde Exhausts

Aftermarket exhausts indeed bring extra torque and horsepower but the extra decibels that come with them are not always legal or appreciated by the neighborhood. This is the main dilemma when it comes to choosing an aftermarket silencer and there's really no way out of it.

Well, almost no way, because the Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde exhausts do come with a variable architecture that solves the problem in a way that's both efficient and elegant. These silencers come with an electronically-actuated valve that changes position in the way of exhaust gas flow and modifies the power characteristic and the tonal presence of the bike.

The Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde exhausts have, in fact, three modes: Travel, Dynamic, and Sport, each differentiated by the positioning of the butterfly valve.

The Travel mode sees the valve closed and rerouting the exhaust gas through the entire body of the silencer, reducing the noise levels even below those of the stock cans. The Travel mode is ideal to avoid being pulled over or shunned by the neighbors firing the engine and the heating the bike before departing.

Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde can also have the valve open 50%, in the Dynamic mode. This mode sends the exhaust flow through both routes, providing an experience that is similar to that OEM cans deliver, but with a small hike in power and timbre.

Finally, when entering the Sport mode, the valve inside the Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde exhaust are fully open, and almost the entire gas flow travels directly out the exit port. The Sport mode reaches the maximum power and torque supplement while also being the loudest mode.

The BMW R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure range is the latest addition to the Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde roster, with the exhaust silencers available in Nomad Carbon Steel and Nomad Black versions. These cans are plug and play and do no require electronic interfacing, only power for the actuator.

A small, unobtrusive and easy-to-use button with a color LED ring is mounted on the handlebar and that's pretty much it. The variable Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde exhausts will fit BMW R1200GS(A) machines manufactured in 2010 and newer, and add up to 5.4 hp @ 5500 rpm.

Thes cans sell from March 2016 but you should check with Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde and their dealers for pricing.
