I got criticized for calling one of the early commercials for BMW‘s new, liquid-cooled R1200GS Adventure “sickeningly cheesy”, but it’s the very German manufacturer which proves the truth behind my words. A new commercial just surfaced, and by the adventure gods, it is tenfold cooler and closer to the truth than the old one.
And to make things even funnier, this new commercial advertises the base model R1200GS, not the Adventure one, though showing two riders, male and female riding in places where this bikes re intended to go: rocky trails, muddy ponds, rivers and whatnot. No retired or close-to-retirement riders wading 8”-deep streams and caressing bikes, right? Thanks, BMW.
In fact, the new commercial advertises the seat customization choices customers have when buying their new R1200GS. Stephanie Rowe is 159cm tall, whereas her riding partner is 190cm, both with corresponding different inseams, though both able to ride the new GS without hindrance.
If you plan to get a new R1200GS, you’d make a wise decision visiting BMW Motorrad’s online seat height calculator, a good way to get a better picture of whether you’ll feel alright aboard the machine… when riding very slowly or when stopped. BMW also says that “the seat height configurator cannot replace detailed advice from your BMW Motorrad dealer. The result is simply a recommendation to ensure sufficient standing stability. The only way to find out which model and seat actually suits you best is to take a test ride.”
In case there’s absolutely no way you can get enough standing stability on the R1200GS, there’s also an option, with the F800GS and the F650GS machines, so not all hope is lost. I truly enjoyed this new commercial, and I know BMW can do even better. I’m still waiting for BMW to come forth with something to beat the awesomeness of KTM’s 1190 Adventure R commercial.
