In times when retro design cues seem to come back into the spotlight, customizers and riders appear to re-discover the allure of slightly retro machines. And since rather few manufacturers still offer such bikes, the only way to “travel back in time” is having an expert customizer make all the changes. When it comes to the BMW motorcycles, Germany’s company Hornig is by far one of the best places to go. And their recent take on the R1100R should be more than enough for a business card.
BMW stopped manufacturing the R1100R around year 2000, but the bike was already a favored roadster among riders in Europe. Having sold in generous numbers, these bikes can be found today for extremely affordable prices which can go as low as €2500-3000 ($), which makes them a very good choice for a donor bike. And if you feel like adding a hefty dash of scrambler DNA to the R1100R, Hornig’s catalog has the right parts.

Pretty much everything you see as a bolt-on part on this Scrambler comes from Hornig, including the custom tuck-and-roll seat, aluminium fenders and LED lights, the entire instrument cluster, headlight and many more. The scrambler also received a Penzl exhaust with variable tuning and Hornig wheels.

This trim means spending around €5000 ($) on the bike, which couples to the initial acquisition costs will deliver a custom BMW scrambler in your garage for well less than €10k ($), which is absolutely great. Hornig obviously has a wide palette of custom parts and accessories for a very generous selection of BMW bikes, and checking with them might bring quite interesting new ideas for future bikes.
