BMW is well known for its remarkable enduring, viable and high-performance engines. That's why more than just one auto-maker is using one or two of them, even though they're not part of the BMW family.
One of these is the Roding Roadster. The limited edition car (and we really mean it, only 23 of them will be built) has the heart of a BMW. Under the bonnet of the expensive roadster sits a 3-liter 6-cylinder N55HP engine developing 320 HP and 450 Nm of torque.
That might not seem like much but, when you take the weight of the car into consideration you might change your mind. The chassis is made out of CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) and the front and rear subframes are made out of aluminum. This way, the car's weight adds up to only 950 kg. That means it has a power to weight ration of around 300 HP/tone.
The transmission is a 6-speed manual with a Torsen limited slip differential sending the power to all 4 wheels. Each car is hand-made. The seats are Recaro Racing ones and the car even has an Alpine 6.1" touch screen system with GPS and lap timer in order to allow you to keep an eye on the lap times.
Even though at the beginning the Roding officials claimed that their Roadster will only come painted in a combination of red and carbon fibre, at Geneva they showed a yellow version of their car. You, our BMW Power readers, get to take a look at it through our photo gallery below.
