“One of the best examples of a custom car that I've ever seen." That’s what Jay Leno said about this 1961 Chevrolet Impala dubbed Project Cheemer, when it was featured in his 'special' garage. He is absolutely right.
Over the 5 years it took to complete it, the guys from Wheels Magazine kept a close eye on the project, featuring it in over 700 photos taken whilst the whole thing was being done.

Combining retro style with legendary reliability, the car is using a BMW M70 V12 5-liter engine hooked up to a 4-speed automatic gearbox for a smooth ride. The brakes also had to be updated and you’ll find brake discs at all four corners of the car now.

As for the suspension, the ride quality was improved via an air suspension that also allows you to drop it a few inches (not really my taste, but for some people out there, it might do the trick).

Inside, the luxury gets ludicrous for a car that’s 53 years old. Power windows, power brakes, power steering, air conditioning and a full custom setup will make you feel at home.

The exterior was done in Candy Green with a couple of custom touches like a dash of black on the sides and on the roof and a specially made bonnet that emphasizes the V12 working beneath it. The wheels are signed by Mike Curtis and are one-off.

This one-off Impala will be up for auction in Scottsdale, AZ on Sunday at the Barrett-Jackson Auction House.
