The BMW Group posted a decent 4.3 percent increase in sales in April, the previous month therefore becoming the company’s best even in its near 100-year history.
With 162,093 units sold, the sales were higher by 13,666 units in total, covering all the brands owned like MINI, Rolls-Royce and BMW, of course. On a year-to-date basis, things are looking even better, the Group reporting a 7.5 percent increase to a grand total of 649,118 units.

“The BMW Group achieved record sales in April, keeping us on track to achieve our aim of delivering our best ever year with more than two million vehicles sold in 2014”, said Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Sales and Marketing BMW.

The BMW brand enjoyed most of this success, as usual. Out of the 162,093 units sold, 140,840 were wearing the blue and white roundel, an increase of 7.8 percent over the same period of last year (prev. yr. 130,604 units).

On a year-to-date basis, BMW brand sales went up even more, by 11.2 percent, to 569,100 units, with the new 2 Series and 4 Series models helping out a lot. The 2 Series range was introduced in dealerships in March and yet it was already sold in over 5,000 units, for example, while the 4 Series was sold in 25,859 units this year alone.

“I am particularly pleased that sales of our new BMW 2 and 4 Series cars are developing well, proving that these brand new models are appealing to our customers”, Robertson added. The BMW Group will launch a total of 16 new or revised models this year.

The reigning king is still the 3 Series, though, with a total of 153,623 units sold since January, a 3.9 percent increase. The 5 Series follows closely with 122,510 units sold, up 4.2 percent.

SUVs are also popular, apparently, the X1 leading the pack thanks to its old-school steering and the competitive price. The smallest X offering was sold in 55,342 units over the first four months of the year, a 11.8 percent increase. Runner up is the X3 with 53,098 units.

The i3 sales continue to be strong and over 1,000 units of the EV were delivered to customers in April alone, making the total sales of the car reach 2,996 units. However, numbers would’ve been higher if the production could face the demand. Furthermore, with the introduction of the new i car in the US in April, sales are expected to pick-up even further.

MINI brand vehicles are going down though, with only 20,917 cars delivered in April, a 14.9 percent drop. On a year-to-date basis, the drop is a bit smaller in percentages, down 13.2%.

Asia remains the most important market for BMW, with sales going up by 20.6 percent so far, adding up to a total of 209,558 units since January. Out of the bunch, China was noticed as the biggest market in the world, claiming 145,716 units in total this year, a 25.2 percent increase over 2013.

On the other side of the Globe, the Americas were also profitable, claiming 135,827 units in total. 110,626 of them went to the USA that recorded a 2.5 percent increase in demand. The biggest rise was recorded in Brazil, though, with a 23.3 percent increase.
