BMW Outsold Audi and Mercedes Worldwide so far, Luxury Battle Heats Up

With BMW going for the 2 million mark by the end of the year, the other two giants from Germany, Mercedes-Benz and Audi are pushing hard as well to rain on the Munichers’ party. So far though, the blue and white roundel company is keeping its crown untouched.

Over the first six months of 2014, BMW sold no less than 1,020,211 units, including MINI and Rolls-Royce vehicles, a 6.9 percent increase compared to last year. At the same time, the number two spot in this ad-hoc contest went to Audi with 869,350 units delivered while Mercedes-Benz came in third with 783,520 cars.

What’s really important to emphasize here is that all three companies posted decent improvements and for all of them these are record numbers.

On the monthly basis, BMW is still the best selling brand with 193,342 units sold overall, for the Group. If we’re to count the BMW brand cars alone, the Bimmers are still on the number one spot with 164,214 units compared to Audi’s 155,450 and Mercedes’ 142,136 deliveries.

The biggest and most important model for the four-ringed company seems to be the A3 Sedan that just went on sale in the US and is more than popular, boosting the company’s sales beyond their expectations and allowing it to show its face again in the premium segment. The premium brand grew in North America by 21.2 percent year-to-year.

In China, though, Audi is still struggling. Compared to BMW, for example, its sales are slower but the company did manage to sell more than 50,000 units in a month for the first time since they started their venture in the Asian country.

Mercedes is also doing good in China, selling 135,972 units so far this year, an most impressive 37.5 percent increase. BMW managed to break the 200,000 barrier though, reaching a grand total of 225,035 units.

So far, BMW is in the cards to break all of its previous records, reach the 2 million goal and keep the competition at bay. However, key models are still to come into play later this year and things could get even hotter in between these three giants.
