The qualifying runs done yesterday by the 8 BMW teams that will be competing in this year’s DTM Championship were extremely successful, claiming 3 of the top 4 spots on the starting grid.

Today, Marco Wittmann will start from the second place with his Ice-Watch BMW M4 DTM, right next to Audi’s Adrien Tambay that managed to post the best qualifying run. Right behind Marco will be Bruno Spengler and rookie Antonio Felix da Costa that will be racing in the DTM for the first time. With his Red Bull M4 DTM.

The rest of the teams will be following from the eight place (Martin Tomczyk), the ninth place (Timo Glock), 12th place (Augusto Farfus), 14th place (Maxime Martin) and 17th place (Joey Hand). The last two runners are at their first DTM adventures, coming in from the American LeMans Series, this year.

Speaking of the qualifying laps, BMW Motorsport Director, Jens Marquardt said: “That was an incredibly close first qualifying with our brand-new BMW M4 DTM. We are obviously very happy with the result. Three BMW M4 DTMs in the top four, and five in the top ten – that is a very good result for us, across the board and for all the teams.”

“Marco Wittmann produced a really great display, as did Bruno Spengler. And particularly worthy of mention is António Félix da Costa with a sensational fourth place in his very first DTM qualifying. We are looking forward to what promises to be an exciting race tomorrow, hopefully in good weather – as the track temperature also played a role today,” he added.
