With a history written with countless titles and legendary cars, BMW’s Motorsport division is ready for the 2014 DTM Championship that is set to begin on May 4th on the one and only Hockenheimring.
The drivers are ready and the teams have been introduced to the public, the audience waiting to see the 8 different cars on the track, wearing their new liveries for this season.

The liveries aren’t the only new thing either. After writing history and becoming the most successful car in the history of the DTM, the M3 was retired and its place will be taken by the new M4 Coupe this year, in the legendary series.

However, we are a bit confused about BMW’s approach. Even though the new car will be wearing a different moniker and use a new body style, the engine and transmission will be the same as on the E92 M3 before it.

The M4 will have the same P66 V8 engine under the bonnet, making 480 BHP (487 PS) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque coupled to a sequential 6-speed sport gearbox operated pneumatically using shift paddles mounted on the steering wheel. Combined, the two allow the M4 to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3 seconds.

So, if the engine and transmission are the same, what’s new about the M4 Coupe? Just the name and body?
