It's now official: BMW enters the small-displacement market and announces the (expected) partnership with Indian manufacturer TVS.
The tie-up concerns the production of future models in classes below 500cc, and which will be sold all around the world, though both brands' dealer networks.
According to one of our Indian sources present at the event, BMW is not planning to build their big-bore machines in India and they will continue to be sold there as CBU, built in Berlin, Germany.
BMW Motorrad will be in charge of engineering, while TVS will handle manufacturing. This means that the new half-liter (and below) bikes will be designed, engineered and tested in Germany) and then be built in two flavors, in India, one for BMW and one for TVS and each addressing a specific market.
The first BMW-TVS bike is scheduled for 2015 and we're really looking forward to see it. And if BMW decides to start producing scooters, too, then this partnership might be a real game changer.
