The contest for winning one of the five places available in BMW's "Ride of Your Life” tour has not only reached an end, but the jury has also deliberated on the lucky quintet. Even though some might find this somewhat surprising, one of the 5 riders is a woman.
The board of the BMW Motorrad "Ride of Your Life" contest comprised Adrien Brody, Rick Yune, Charley Boorman and Jutta Kleinschmidt, all with equal judging powers. There have been around 12,000 applicants worldwide and believe it or not, the judges went through them all.
So, ladies first: English Stephanie Rowe is 25, works in the motorcycle accessories industry and is a highly successful enduro rider. We wish her the best of luck taming the R1200GS machine she'll be riding, and not because she's a woman, but because the bike is really big.
Next in line comes German Herbert Unger, riding bikes since he was 18 and celebrating his 50th anniversary on the very tour, followed by Italian Alessandro Cigolini hailing from Florence, 41-year-old Spaniard Salvador Echevarria from Barcelona, with the fifth BMW rider being Frenchman Stephane Gautronneau, 39 and a fashion photographer in Paris. He's also traveled the 16,000 km (9945 miles) between Paris and Goa in 46 days.
As BMW officials note, “Ride of Your Life tour passes through widely different climates and landscapes, from the misty jungle of Asia to Africa’s arid lands, New Zealand’s national parks, the endless prairies of North America and the steep mountain passes of the Pyrenees. The final destination will be BMW World in Munich, Germany.
