BMW Motorrad Launches The Navigator V

Who said navigation systems will never be as practical on bikes as they are on cars? BMW Motorrad just announced a next-generation GPS Navigation System called Navigator V that has all the functions you normally use inside your car.

The new device has a 5 inch TFT display (with a resolution of 800x480) that has 65,000 colors, is Bluetooth capable and is imbued with a lot of new technologies that make it top of its class.

One of the Navigator V's new technologies allows you to create longer and more detailed routes that can include up to 3,750 reference points. Furthermore, landmarks and points of interest can now be used to give spoken directions (for example instead of saying "turn left in 100 feet" the system can say: "turn left at the white church.”).

Thanks to the new maps, building can now be visualized in 3D in many cities. Collaborating with Garmin, the device can now be connected to your Android phone or iPhone to received weather and traffic information.

The housing of the new Navigator is waterproof and gasoline-resistant and will even allow you to use the device while wearing gloves. Furthermore, on the R 1200 GS and K 1600 GT/GTL models some functions can be controlled directly through the multi-controller on the left of the handlebars.

In the US, the BMW Motorrad Navigator V comes with preinstalled map data of North America. With 8 GB of internal storage and a maximum of 64 GB attainable using an SD card, the Navigator V will be available starting with October at a recommended retail price of USD799 without a cradle mount and USD899 with it.
