Building on the solid basis of the IV model, BMW Navigator V now sports a larger 5" () display which is also brighter than that of the previous version. 800 x 480 pixels resolution and eye-pleasing 65K colors are in place to enhance visibility in all display modes, with smoother zoom and better graphics.

New trip technology allows up to 3,750 reference points per trip, while spoken instructions are partially related to actual landmarks: "instead of saying "turn left in 100 feet" the system can say: "turn left at the white church,” the BMW Motorrad press release adds.

Home function, fast "beeline" routing, Bluetooth integration, 3D building and lane assist support are also available. The BMW Navigator V also comes with a bike mount and 4-button cradle which makes gloved operation much easier.

The housing of the GPS is waterproof and petrol-resitant, while installing it on bikes such as R1200GS and K1600GT/GTL also allows operational integration with the machines' multi-controller interface on the left handlebar.

Powered by a replaceable and rechargeable Li-Ion battery which provides juice for up to 4 hours, the BMW Navigator V also comes with mini USB charging and an optional charging unit.

The unit is Garmin Base Camp-compatible and Garmin Smartphone Link apps are available for both Android and iOS. Free lifetime map updates are included, and the BMW Navigator V can also receive an SD card up to 64 GB.

An optional car mounting kit is also available, with integrated speaker and microphone. The Navigator V will be available in October for $799 (€590) for GPS-ready BMW bikes, and $899 (€665) with a cradle mount.
