BMW Motorrad is happy to announce that the first quarter of 2015 is the best-ever such period in the 90-year history of the manufacturer, as far as the number of bikes sold goes.
Both quarterly and March sales have been over the same figures recorded last year. Since the quarterly increase in sales is noticeably bigger than the increase in the month of March, we can figure out that BMW has been doing significantly better in the first two month of the year.

In March, BMW sold 15,912 motorcycles and maxi scooters worldwide, a 4.8% increase from the 15,183 in the third month of 2014. The quarterly number of bikes and scooters sold as per March 2015 is 31,370, 9.2% better than the 28,719 units moved in the same period last year.

Growth in almost all the worldwide markets

Heiner Faust, BMW Motorrad Head of Sales and Marketing says that the company recorded sales growth in almost all the international markets but does not mention the regions that remained constant or declined.

A huge growth in sales in Southern Europe countries was the "star" of BMW's quarterly report. According to official sources, sales went up 46% in Portugal and 24% in Spain. This may be a sign that the economy in these two countries affected by large unemployment rate might get better.

The biggest single market for BMW motorcycles remains Germany, with 12% better sales as per March, 2015 compared to the previous year. German customers bought 5,369 motorcycles and maxi scooters, accounting for almost a sixth of the total sales.

BMW's home market is followed by the USA (3,229 units), France (3,155 units), Italy (2,936 units) and Great Britain (1,746 units).

R1200GS is still the bike to beat

It's no surprise that the R1200GS travel bike is the star of BMW's sales, accompanied by its R1200GS Adventure sibling. These two models represent around a third of the whole sales, with more than 10,000 units sold in the first three months of the year.

R1200RT is third on the best-selling list, with 2,681 units sold to final customers while the new 2015 model year S1000RR already ranks fourth on this list, only a few weeks after becoming available. No less than 2,574 S1000RR units have been sold, with excellent prospects for the next quarter.

We are eager to see how the S1000XR will perform in these statistics.
