Back when the original BMW 8 Series came to be, the Motorsport Division did create an M8 prototype, but this model never made it to the showroom. Nowadays, given the Bavarian automotive producer's appetite for niches, it's no surprise that we received an entire M8 family, which is comprised of the Coupe, the Gran Coupe and the Convertible.
Nevertheless, there will always be dreamers aiming for more, which is how we end up with renderings such as the one that brought us here.

As you'll get to notice in the social media post at the bottom of the page, this pixel play actually started out with the BMW M850i xDrive. However, J.B. Cars, the label behind the render, added M8 elements, such as the quadruple exhaust pipes and the door mirrors.

At first, one might say that a BMW M8 Wagon would be too much. Then again, this could compete with the Porsche Panamera Turbo Sports Tourer - I admit to having a thing for machines that push the Shooting Brake genre forward.

The sheer quirkiness of this contraption is what sets it apart. As for its practicality, well, such an M8 derivative could always serve as an alternative to super-SUVs. Sadly, with the 8er tipping the scales at about two tonnes, such a wagon wouldn't weight much less than a super-SUV.

Then again, the driving experience offered by such a toy should still be considerably more engaging than the one offered by, say, an X5 M or an X6 M (those links lead to spy material showcasing the next-gen models). So the visual side of the deal is not the only argument in favor of such a machine.

Much to nobody's surprise, the most interesting aspect of the M8 Touring (this is the suffix BMW estates use on the Old Continent) is the melange involving the uber-generous hips of the vehicle and rear greenhouse section. And in a world where crossovers wouldn't be so popular, such a model could probably become reality...
